Quick Info

Man Seeking Woman is one of those slightly off-the-wall comedies that sneaks up on you with just how creative it is. The show follows Josh Greenberg, played by Jay Baruchel, as he stumbles through the minefield of modern dating. What makes it different is its unabashedly surreal approach—heartbreak is literal, exes show up as trolls, and every horrible date feels like you’re watching someone’s bizarre fever dream.

There’s something really relatable underneath the absurdity. As wild as it gets, the show nails that awkward, desperate longing for love and connection. Episodes are packed with visual gags and parodies, poking fun at the heightened emotions we all pretend don’t exist when dating goes sideways. For every demon-ex-girlfriend or government-news-style break-up update, there’s a kernel of real emotional truth.

Jay Baruchel handles Josh’s cringe-worthy vulnerability with charm, and Eric André as his best friend brings an unpredictable energy to every scene. The show’s supporting cast (especially Britt Lower and Maya Erskine) also keep things grounded, which is pretty essential when the world around the characters is constantly morphing into something magical or monstrous. The cameos are surprisingly great and add flavor to each episode.

If the show falters at all, it’s that sometimes the absurdity overshadows the emotional core. A few episodes lean so heavily into their gimmicks, you might find yourself wishing for a breath of normalcy before the next wild set piece. The visual effects and dreamlike storytelling are fun, but occasionally that style can feel overwhelming if you want a more traditional rom-com groove.

You would enjoy this if you like clever, risk-taking comedy that isn’t afraid to get weird. Fans of shows like “The Good Place” or “Wilfred” will probably love its whimsical, surrealist take on the ups and downs of dating. It’s for anyone who looks back on their own love life and thinks, “Yeah, that actually was kind of ridiculous.”
